Well-started Pterinochilus murinus (Orange Baboon Tarantula “OBT”), approximately 0.75 inches in size. This species is famous for its vibrant orange coloration, heavy webbing, and fast, defensive nature, making it a true standout in any collection.
An Old World species, OBTs are best suited for experienced keepers. They are extremely fast, highly defensive, and rely on speed and threat displays rather than urticating hairs. However, they are also incredibly hardy and exhibit strong feeding responses, making them very rewarding for those comfortable with their temperament.
OBTs are prolific webbers and will quickly create dense, intricate web structures throughout their enclosure. Providing anchor points such as cork bark or decor will encourage natural webbing behavior. While they may occasionally burrow as slings, they typically establish webbed retreats and remain within them.
