Well-started Caribena versicolor (Antilles Pinktoe Tarantula), approximately 1.5 inches in size. Widely regarded as one of the most visually stunning tarantulas in the hobby, this species undergoes a dramatic color transformation - starting as brilliant metallic blue "blueberry" slings and gradually developing into adults with a rich blend of reds, purples, and greens, topped with a metallic green carapace and signature pink toe tips.
A beloved New World arboreal species, C. versicolor is an excellent introduction to arboreal keeping. Adults are generally calm and docile, though they can be quick, skittish, and prone to short jumps when startled. They are also known for a unique defense mechanism - launching fecal matter at perceived threats from up to 2–3 feet away.
At this size, your specimen is past the most delicate sling stage, making it a much hardier and more forgiving keeper. Adequate cross-ventilation is critical for this species - stagnant, overly moist air is the leading cause of the dreaded "Sudden Avic Death Syndrome" (SADS). Provide vertical space with cork bark tubes or branches for climbing, and they will construct elaborate tubular web retreats. Light misting for water droplets and a small water dish are preferred over heavy misting.
