Well-started Avicularia avicularia M6 (Metallic Pinktoe Tarantula), approximately 0.75 inch in size. This morphotype is prized for its stunning metallic blue-green sheen as a juvenile, which transitions into a beautiful dark, velvety coloration with signature pink-orange toe tips as an adult.
A popular New World arboreal species, A. avicularia is a great choice for keepers looking to step into arboreal husbandry. They are generally docile but can be quick and skittish, occasionally bolting or making short jumps when startled. Their manageable temperament and striking appearance make them a rewarding species for beginner to intermediate keepers.
As slings and juveniles, adequate cross-ventilation is essential - this species is sensitive to stagnant, overly humid conditions and does best with good airflow. They will web extensively, constructing tubular silk retreats in elevated areas. Provide vertical space, anchor points such as cork bark or artificial plants, and light misting for a water source.
